Welcome to My Primitive Garden. This site embraces the many things that inspire me and warm my heart. My children and grandchildren, a love of gardening, a passion for permaculture and restoring the earth, and a desire to be self sustaining, living fully off grid. I'm an off grid girl stuck in a small town world. But only for a hot minute.
Beehive inspection |
Presently I live on a small corner lot in a smallish house, in Small Town, USA - the result of an unexpected plot twist in the story of my life. I've learned to grow where I'm planted - all puns intended. Here, under the guise of "landscaping", I grow a large variety of produce in my organic gardens.
A hive of bees aids in pollination and supplies me with honey, pollen and beeswax. Eight lovely hens help control pests and provide eggs and fertilizer.
Everything in the yard and gardens is edible. This includes flowering plants like Nasturtiums, daylilies, salvia and marigolds. Essentially, if it's growing, it will be eaten. This small suburban "farmstead" provides me with most of the foods I eat. In the spring, summer and fall, I'm busy planting, growing and harvesting.
Later, fruits and veggies are pickled, canned, frozen or dehydrated. And there's still an abundance to share with others as well as to trade for items I don't have on hand.
For the time I am here I continue to explore possibilities on a smaller scale. Composting, solar power, hugelkultur, permaculture, homesteading...I have a hungry mind. As much as I love learning, I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences. It would be a pleasure to learn and grow together.
Welcome to My Primitive Garden. Pull up a seat and sit a spell.
